The Lowdown - which is better - Excalibur or Luxor??

I am looking at their rates for next May 2009. Yes, its miles away but like to get my hotels sort of fixed. By this - I mean, my mind set on which one to stay at.

I am sort of on a budget. I will be staying in Vegas from May 4 (check in) to May 15 (check out) = 11 nights altogether.

I have probably about $1500 for the total stay including tax, dont really want to pay more.

I do like both these hotels but which fares better?

in terms of service, location, room (as in nice room, nasty room etc), dining etc.

Which one basically comes out on top (overall)???

Welcome anyone who has stayed in either recently and do I need to worry about lots of construction for next May in either hotel??

I have stayed at both properties - Excalibur Widescreen room, Excalibur standard Room, and Luxor Tower Room. Excalibur standard room is icky, don%26#39;t book it. Excalibur Widescreen rooms blows the Luxor Tower Room away.

Excalibur is not known for it%26#39;s dining, but neither is the Luxor. I do know Excalibur%26#39;s sherwood forest restaurant has some great late night specials. Both buffets are nothing to write home about. But, you are connected to Mandalay Bay from either location by tram. And NYNY and MGM are a hop, skip and a jump away via walkway, so you can eat there.

Believe it or not, Excalibur%26#39;s pool has just been rennovated and is very very nice! Nicer than Luxor%26#39;s pool.

Not sure on the construction. I do know excalibur is planning on rennovating some more rooms, but I don%26#39;t know when.

Luxor much better by far,stayed here last year,very nice hotel,great service,nice casino, ab.fab pool area..never stayed at excalibur, but visited it. seems very run-down..if theres not much difference in price go for luxor, by the way how are you booking hotel? directly or through s web-site

Excalibur has a better location

Luxor the better Hotel of the two

Excalibur more children

Luxor has better restaurants

Luxor main casino rooms are small

Luxor has better pool grounds

Excalibur up-graded rooms

Luxor ask for tower rooms

Excalibur more family hotel

Luxor is a better property, has better restaurants and better service.

Also Excalibur is more family oriented, therefore more kids....... Thats a problem for most people

Luxor is a better hotel. Get a tower room, not a pyramid room. Much less walking to get to the casino.

I wouldn%26#39;t eat at Excalibur under any circumstances. Luxor is only so-so on food and not worth the $ IMO.

I have yet to get a bad meal from anyplace at NYNY. It%26#39;s my favorite place to eat but no buffet.

Mandalay Bay has a fine buffet. House of Blues is really good too.

Both Excalibur and Luxor have food that is just average at best. If you choose to stay at one of these plan to dine at other locations.

I think the Excalibur%26#39;s widescreen rooms are much nicer than Luxor%26#39;s rooms. I also like Ex%26#39;s casino better and always win something at Ex. Neither place has good food options. The Excalibur has added a new pool area that is very nice and is updating other areas of the property. And as far as kids go, I have never noticed kids to be a problem at Excalibur. They can%26#39;t hang out in adult areas anyway. In fact, my DH and I both noticed more kids at Flamingo (maybe because of the pool) and at MGM Grand. I honestly think either one would be okay, they are both pretty basic hotels. Since you%26#39;re going to be in Vegas so long, why not stay at a cheap place part of the time and then move to a little nicer hotel? You might look at rates for IP, Harrahs or Flamingo. You can book something now and then cancel (make sure you can cancel) and rebook when you see a better rate.

Excalibur is one - I always win more at table games at Excalibur so I am biased. Easy access to walk across to MGM Grand for better dining there or over to NYNY. Not sure baout renovations at EX.

Luxor is cheaper. Luxor is currently under renovation - its a mess right now through the summer. Monorail between LX and Mandy Bay is out of commission.

Thanks for the tip on the tram. Mercy, I hope it is up and running by the end of August because I really need it to get from NYNY to Mandalay daily.

Any thoughts on how quickly it will be back in service?

Both are poor choices.

Mirage or TI or Monte Carlo would be much better, especially for 11 nights.
