Angell's Landing and the Narrows

We probably won%26#39;t arrive Zion until dinnertime or a little before, after leaving Vegas, seeing Hoover Dam and Valley of Fire. It was suggested that I go to Angel%26#39;s Landing early (although we are not going all the way to the top). When is a good time to hike the Narrows? I don%26#39;t think we could go around dinnertime. Will it be too much to go after Angel%26#39;s Landing? The next morning we will be heading toward%26#39;s Bryce for a 1:30 horseback ride.

I%26#39;m also not sure how long Hoover Dam will take...we expect to get there early..then Valley of Fire and driving time...I have no idea when we%26#39;ll arrive Zion. I would like to go then, but I don%26#39;t know...

Angell's Landing and the Narrows

I think a lot of it will depend on how much energy you have or how much your initial hike to the top of Angels landing takes out of you. At Zion I believe they list the time to hike to the top of Angels Landing as 2 to 2 1/2 hours each way. We made it in about 1 1/2 to the top and 1 1/4 hours down. We started out for the top at 7am in November and were back to the lodge before noon.

So you may have time to hit the narrows in the afternoon. We ended up leaving to go back to Vegas as it started raining.

Enjoy your trip....

Angell's Landing and the Narrows

You may want to post this in the Zion forum in Utah...

Also, you might want to be aware that the walk up the Virgin river, to the actual Narrows portion of the canyon is quite a hike. It is probably at least a couple of miles, but you will be walking thru ankle-to-knee deep water, and over and around quite a lot of slippery rocks and boulders, in a meandering path.

We did the walk a few years ago, during a trip from LV to Grand Canyon, then to Zion. The walk to the Narrows ended up taking a good half-day, and nobody had much energy left to attempt something like a climb up to Angel%26#39;s Landing. Is there any possibility of doing these two activities over two days??

Lastly, please pay very close attention to the weather reports, and for any possibility of rainstorms in the area. The very last thing that you want is to be in a narrow slot canyon, when there is heavy rain somewhere upstream. It is unbelievable how quickly the runoff can cause the water to come up. The canyon walls go up for 100%26#39;s of feet on each side, and, believe me, in the Narrows, you have got absolutely no place to go.

Its a fabulous place, tho - see it if you can!!
