recommendations for visiting LV with kids

I am thinking of visiting LV, in August, with my husband and 2 kids (11 %26amp; 15), from the UK and it will be our first time there.

What hotels would you recommend? looked at Planet Hollywood and New York New York so far, both look ok. I would like somewhere with a good pool.

Also it will be my sons 11th birthday whilst we are there, any advice for something special to do?

Any other advice/recommendations would be greatly appreciated.

Many thanks x

Check out the ';sticky'; link at the top of page one of the forum for a good listing of things to do with families.

Neither Planet Hollywood nor NYNY have good pools. I%26#39;d personally recommend MGM Grand for you guys. Good choice for a family with a great pool area.

Depending on your budget that you make no mention of..

NYNY is not the place if your looking for a great pool.

PH is not My idea of a family Hotel plus the pool is not great.

I would probably stay at MGM with kids there age, the MGM has great pool grounds and a decent location along with some decant places to eat. While its not center strip you are near many other nice Hotels.

The Excalibur and Circus Circus are usually known for being family oriented Hotels and low cost places, but I personally wouldn%26#39;t stay at either one.

You might also want to look into Treasure Island

Hi

On the strip I would go for MGM but Orleans and South Point would be better as they have bowling and cinema and kids arcades, all onsite. Also with a family I would def rent a car there are so many things you can do that are in the area but not on the strip that will make a good holiday with the kids. As for a birthday treat, it would depend on his likes and dislikes, what would he think is speacial?

Have to disagree on Treasure Island. I was there in 2006 and although a nice hotel, it%26#39;s not very kid friendly and the pool is small.

Maybe take him to Ethel M%26#39;s Chocolate Factory?

I%26#39;m sure you%26#39;ve heard it before but Vegas isn%26#39;t really a place for kids I hope you will be going to other parts of the States as well.

i can%26#39;t say it%26#39;s a good idea to bring the kids, but if you do, try and stay off strip.

a non- gaming hotel like the westin or marriott would be a much better enviroment. you can%26#39;t imagine the smoke, language, and adult vibe at a place like PH or TI.

i would never bring my teenager to vegas; it will all be there to enjoy in a few short years when she%26#39;s an adult.

MGM is definitely the best hotel for kids on the strip. Great pool, decent location.

www.fatwallet.com (forums--travel--LV) lists a ton of promo codes.

My son enjoyed the roller coaster at NYNY and Sahara, along w/ a virtual reality NASCAR-like ';ride'; at Sahara. He enjoyed meals at ESPN Zone at NYNY and NASCAR cafe at Sahara. He likes Planet Hollywood and Hard Rock Cafes, too. He enjoyed walking along the strip at night, as well as driving up it. I think kids would like to see the lions/ M %26amp; M store at MGM, tigers/volcano at Mirage, Bellagio fountains, Sirens show at TI. Excalibur has nice areas for kids (video games, etc) though most large hotels do. Great malls include Caesars, Planet Hollywood, Venetian as well as the standard but HUGE Fashion Show Mall.

We took our 12 YO for the NASCAR race. We KNEW LV is really an adults trip--one we have made many times. And the thick sex theming in Vegas had our son jaw-dropping alot. (giggling alot, too) But if you are focused, there are activities the kids can really enjoy. (BUT don%26#39;t think we will take a kid back until they are 21+...)

Have fun!

'; (BUT don%26#39;t think we will take a kid back until they are 21+...)';

exactly.

it%26#39;s not that it can%26#39;t be done. it%26#39;s more like %26#39;why would you%26#39;?

Why don%26#39;t you look into taking your family to the Grand Canyon , which is fairly close by ( you would still fly into Las Vegas if necessary , then drive from there. If hotel space is still available in teh Park there ( may not be) you can take your child horseback riding and river rafting and I think he would have lots more fun. If you planned to come back to Las Vegas the day before you go back , you could spend one day seeing a little of it- but I think if this trip is truly to treat your child , he%26#39;d really love the Western atmosphere of the Grand Canyon much more.

Hi

You will see no worse than walking around soho in London or passing an Ann Summers shop in any mall, the main thing to make a note of is no stopping in the casino%26#39;s, keep walking and bar%26#39;s are for only 21 and above. Agreed it is aimed at the over 21%26#39;s but if you plan your holiday properly and don%26#39;t think your whole time is going to be on the strip and in casino%26#39;s you will have a great time. Personally we would make LV only part of the holiday and do attractions in the west in general. The first time we went (without kids) we never even gambled, there was too much to see, so if we had had our kids with us it would have made no difference to what we did.
