Hi, I received a package offer for a Craps Tournament and 3 free nights at Bally%26#39;s in September. Happens to be the same weekend I have to be in Vegas for a conference so I booked it. The only problem? I have never played and need to know where I can learn. I am going to Vegas in August also for a basketball tournament and wonder if there is anywhere I can learn on that trip. Have any of you ever played in a Craps tournament?? Any tips would be appreciated. Thanks.
Craps Tournament
I started out reading a craps book to get the hang of it, you can buy them in any book store, you can also buy a CD for your computer and play,
Craps is not a hard game it just looks intimidating.
You can also read as much as you want on the internet as to How to play.
Learn your odds, such as 9/5- 7/5 and so on the rest will be easy.
Im a very conservative player, line bet with odds, then two come bets with odds, then I will place my bets after that. You must be conservative because at any given time you can have a large amount of money on the table.
Have fun, its a great game but can take a lot of money real fast.
Craps Tournament
Almost all casinos offer lessons in the morning...learn the basics: the odds, the terminology, table etiquette....
Tournament play and strategy will differ from conventional play..you are palying against the odds and playing against the other players...the player with the most money advances to the next round...which could also be the player that lost the least amount of money...
you have to watch who the money leader is and bet accordingly to get ahead or stay even....
if you are way behind during the last few rolls, don%26#39;t overlook betting the FIELD to try and make up ground...you get a decision on every roll as oposed to having money on a few place or come bets..
Look up the rules online, download some free software and get familiar with the table. Then go to a local indian casino if you can, and play. You dont want to show up in Vegas and be intimidated by the table, or get lost because it moves pretty fast when the table is full.
But like someone else said, the casinos offer free lessons, so pick up some of those while youre there in Aug. But the thing is, you HAVE to get on a table before the tournament. nothing else will suffice when it comes to craps, imo
Craps is a fun game and you will enjoy it once you learn how to. When you go to Vegas in August take some lessons and start playing at a place like Bill%26#39;s or O%26#39;Sheas for low limit practice. The games you play on line can be a little odd and it may help you to keep up between August and September. When you are practicing in August ask the dealers and they will help you out. Just be careful when it%26#39;s busy.

The wife and I were in LV for our 25th Anny. I always wanted to play craps as to me it was THE game to play. After learning about TA I found a thread on the game. The web sites offered on TA that helped me learn the game were:
http://www.ildado.com/free_craps.html Very easy to learn game simulator.
www.dicesetter.com/lessons/lessons.toc.htm - Great info here from odds to hoew to play the game.
http://www.nextshooter.com/ - another great site for info.
While in LV played at Flamingo, had a good run on a $10 min table, rolling numbers, and making money for everybody but me, as I was just playing the pass line. I think I made 3 points. I ended up losing about $30 over an hour. Later on a $5 min table at Binions I broke even after about an hour. It was a blast and I cant wait to get back. Have a great time and good luck.
Watch the game awhile when you first get there after learning the rules from a book. It will start to click.
Good things to know:
-DONT say seven at the table! It is a bad omen. Instead refer to it as ';big red'; if necessary. Hence the big red 7 bet.
-Eleven is commonly referred to as ';Yo'; because it sounds so similar to 7
-A ';unit'; is often referred to a $5 or $6 bet on your numbers (the numbers across the center of the table: 4,5,6,8,9,10) and often when ';pressing/bumping'; your bets you may only want to press the bet by 1 unit instead of the whole winning.
-A C/E bet is a craps and yo bet... often played on the ';come out'; roll
-The ';puck'; is the black token used to mark the number
Just a few slang terms to get used to... ;) LOVE craps!
DO NOT BET the pass line.
Wait until number is thrown.
U bet the number, the 6 and the 8.
Nothing else.
Then you wait.
Thanks for the info, I will play some in August and just try my best in September. Hope I get lucky!!!
granps where did your strategy come from ?
