driving from las vegas to los angeles?

We are going to be driving from Las Vegas to Los Angeles on Thursday. Are there any places we should see along the way? Any traffic things we should know about in advance? Is there a post in this forum that already addresses this? Thanks.

Not that much to see other than desert. Desperado rollercoaster at Primm, world%26#39;s tallest thermometer at Baker, a few places to eat and get gas at Barstow.

Traffic heading to LA on a Thursday should be fine.

We did the drive from LV to Hollywood in May. Yes, alot of desert but i would definately do the drive again. Tons of pretty landscape.. and once you get close to LA the views around the Cajun pass are breathtaking. We stopped at Calico ghosttown, it was alright, but nothing special. We also stopped at Buffalo Bills (primm) to do some last minute gambling which was fun!

Its a fairly easy drive the thermometer was kinda interesting because that thing is very tall. There was an Arbys along they way for food. Yea, definately top off the tank at Barstow.

To get traffic and weather for the drive

Remember, Los Angeles traffic is bad between 3 PM and 7 PM, so avoid those hours.

Also, There is nothing worth seeing, so just drive straight to LA

sorry to highjack but i have a similar question

I am going from LV to Palm Springs before going to LA same question anything to see on the way and great little restaurants on the way?

The Calico Ghost Town (about 140 miles from Vegas) is worth a visit, in my opinion.

Be prepared for some long stretches of barren desert -- so bring plenty of liquids, preferrably in a cooler. You have almost 50 miles of desert between Primm and Baker, pretty much without services. Then, 60 miles from Baker to Barstow, again without much by way of services.

I enjoy eating at The Mad Greek in Baker, but service is slow. Baker has a reasonable number of fast food joints as well.

In Barstow, take the Lenwood exit for the best array of fast food places and sit down restaurants.

Thanks for the information. We%26#39;re kind of wondering about the whole earthquake thing. We%26#39;re used to tornados and floods, but not earthquakes. I guess we%26#39;ll see what Thursday brings.

Heavens, it was a moderate earthquake in a good spot for such things to happen, not Armageddon. lol Trust me, all of California is like it was this morning, though a few people in Yorba Linda and Diamond Bar might%26#39;ve lost some china.

As for the drive, I%26#39;ve done that trip at least 100 times each way. Put the pedal to the medal and brace ourself for that beautiful view through the Cajon Pass ... of ... of ... of ... a solid thick blanket of smog. Calico was cool 30 years ago. Forget it.

Eat at Peggy Sue%26#39;s in Yermo.

Now if you want to explore there are some beautiful backroads that cut across the East Mojave, but you%26#39;ll want to save that for a different time of year.

As someone said, don%26#39;t hit the basin much after 3 pm.

Just interested to know how long would it take to drive from LA to Vegas ? and also from San Francisco to Vegas
