First time to Vegas

I will be celebrating my 50th birthday next April 2009 and considering traveling to Las Vegas. Having never been there before, I would like to know a great place to stay, not really a gambler, but will play slot machines %26amp; maybe some blackjack. Interested in seeing the Beatle show (where is it?) %26amp; would like to go on a day trip to the Grand Canyon while there. Any suggestions appreciated!! Will be coming from Florida.

First time to Vegas

Hi,

If you haven’t already you need to decide a budget to give an idea. Dates for April 2009 may not be available yet. The general consensus is that none-gamblers should stay clear of down town but rates are attractive. One question I can answer is the ‘Love’ (the Beatles show) is in the Mirage and it’s excellent. There are many companies offering the Grand Canyon trip-I did the helicopter trip with Papillion-excellent trip and service. Take your walking shoes with you as even hotels which are next to each other are a good distance apart-the Deuce (bus) is a cheap and cost effective way of getting up and down the strip and downtown.

Good luck!

First time to Vegas

It is hard to give you hotel suggestions without knowing your budget so I%26#39;ll list hotels from expensive to moderate.

Bellagio is beautiful, stayed there when it first opened in 1999. Very good hotel for your age (mine too so don%26#39;t feel bad)

Wynn - never been but have heard on here that it is wonderful

Venetian

MGM Grand - staying here starting on Friday YAY!

Mirage

Paris

TI

NYNY

Flamingo

Bills

I guess that is just about all the hotels. They are all beautiful so it really is your choice and your budget.

The Beatle show Love is at the Mirage

The Grand Canyon is beautiful so definitely do a day trip. We went on our last trip and this trip will try to do the Hoover Dam.

Have fun planning.

There are a few more than that, high end also Palazzo and Ceasers, Trump tower-there%26#39;s something for every budget!

Thank you! I was actually looking at the Wynn or the MGM Grand. How long should I stay? 4-5 nights? Have a great trip %26amp; let me know about the MGM Grand when you get back!!

MGM will be considerably less expensive, generally a good value, great pool. Wynn has more of a resort feel. You will find tables expensive there, $15 min on slow Tues afternoon. But there%26#39;s cheap slots all over.

Both properties are not central, Wynn being north, MGM being south.

LOVE is at Mirage, closer to Wynn.

4 nights used to be our max, but if you can do 5, go for it, especially if adding a day trip.

There is SOOO much to see in Vegas, especially on the strip. Wander the strip, see all the casinos %26amp; sites. The first trip is like a first pregnancy...SOOO special!

Have fun!

(April is a good month, nice weather)

Without knowing your budget it really is hard to make recommendations as far as a hotel is concerned. Since this is your first trip to Vegas you should stay on the strip- preferrably in a hotel that is centrally located so you can walk to many of the other hotels. But there are hotels that are centrally located that are very exnpensive and others that are relatively cheap so it depends on what you are willing to spend.

Love is a great show and it is at the Mirage. You do not have to buy the most expensive tickets. The theater is small and in the round. Things are going on around and above you so you do not want to sit too close to the stage. I sat in the very last row and I was happy with the seat- I could see everything!

Wynn is at the north end of the strip and MGM is on the south end. I would stay 5 nights-arriving early Sunday and leaving late Friday. Friday and Saturday nights are much more expensive.

As a first timer I would stay 5 nights because there is so much to see and do.

Those two are great hotels. As I said I will be staying at the MGM Grand from Aug. 1st to the 8th. I will post a report on how I liked everything, but I have no doubts it will be wonderful. You can do a search on here and see reports and other posts on both hotels to see what others are saying about them, but it all comes down to your personal budget and preference.

You can check smartervegas.com for some good discount codes for rooms, shows, etc. Be sure to book directly with the hotel (call) so that if you see that the price has gone down you can call and they will adjust your rate to the lower rate. This works great and only takes a few minutes.
