Planning to go to Virginia City to see the Camel Races in September. Has anyone been to this event, and can they tell me what to expect

Camel Races In september

I have been..its a GREAT TIME..it is crowded, you will walk everywhere, but its fun..

This year me and my belly dance troop ( I teach ) are all going as a big trip, and we will be roaming around dancing and having a good time for 2 days!

I live down in Carson City and yup, The camel races are just a really positive good time, fun but not too crazy or out of hand.

For those who are interested in learning more about the Camel Races in Virginia City there is now a new documentary available which will give you an idea of what occurs at this annual event. The legendary camel races are 47 years old this year and those of us who are members of the International Order of Camel Jockey are looking forward to the 50th anniversary in 2009. Hard to believe that these races started as a joke but now draws people from all over the world not only to participate but to watch as these ';ships of the desert'; race for trophies and honors for the camel jockeys and their sponsors.

My film ';Dromedary Daze'; gives you an insider%26#39;s look at the races and the antics of the camel jockeys. The film is available for download from the internet or you can purchase a hard copy. For more information you can contact me directly at soso@moaningdog.com . If you are interested in seeing some short clips from the film visit www.ifilm.com or www.youtube.com and type ';camel races'; in the search engine. I will be posting some short films from the 2006 races soon so keep an eye out for those too.

Camel Races are always held the weekend AFTER Labor Day. You can even race a camel if you are willing to put up a few hundred dollars to sponsor one! I have raced camels twice, it is quite an experience. Basically just getting to the finish line without falling off is an accomplishment. More information on the Camel Races as well as other events and attractions, and accomodations can be found at their official website:

I can%26#39;t tell you anything about Nevada but I can tell you about Alice Springs, Australia. I went there last year and rode in the Camel Cup. It was the best thing I have ever experienced! I have a first place trophy for the Honeymoon Handicap race where you ride double on the camel. I highly recommend going if you%26#39;ve never been. Camels ride a LOT differently than horses, I can tell you. But, as I said, it%26#39;s an experience you will never forget.
