GC helicopter trips

We are travelling March/April 09 and i have been looking at the various helicopter trips. We would like to land and have the picnic package option . Many companies offer this package and we are wondering if there are any stand out deals that not just offer value for money ( we our first timers and money should not come into it) but an excellent experience from the day. Thanks.

GC helicopter trips

The helicopter trips go to the ';West Rim'; of the Grand Canyon which is far inferior to the sights and scenery that you%26#39;ll find at the South Rim at Grand Canyon National Park.

South Rim will give you a way better ';Grand Canyon experience';. The only way that you can experience GC in all its true glory is, if at all possible, to stay there overnight.

If you%26#39;re not driving then I%26#39;ve no practical experience on the best companies to use for this out of Vegas. Hopefully others will give advice. Check out the Grand Canyon NP forum too.

GC helicopter trips

I have been with Sundance and Papillon and both were pretty much the same.

These heli trips to the West rim only last around 3.5 hours.

45 minute flight there and back, approx.

And 30 minutes on the Canyon floor.

Of course 30 minutes on the floor is not really enough,by the time you take a few pics, and then eat your picnic, its time to leave.

But to be honest, its all about the copter flight and views during it.

Once your on the floor, the views are not exactly overwhelming.

You also need good weather.

I went once when it was very overcast, and you could not see that much.

Another time i went it was hot and sunny, and the difference was amazing.

Actually the best trip i ever did was the Sunset one.

Lovely to see the sun rising up the Canyon walls as the sun starts to set.

Also great flying back to Vegas seeing the sun setting in the horizon

check out the tour companies they all do at least one trip to the south part.

Agreeing with blagger the best way to see the Grand Canyon is to travel to the South Rim aka the Grand Canyon National Park. Helicopter flights from LV don%26#39;t go there. It%26#39;s too far. However you can fly there and then do a helicopter tour above the GC if you choose. Helicopters are not permitted to land inside the canyon, or at the river in that area though. It%26#39;s a totally different environment. The rim is several thousand feet higher, and the canyon is much more impressive at the South Rim.

Check Scenic Airways for their tours and be sure that you%26#39;re going to the South Rim aka GCNP.
