Help to decide, Fly or Drive LA to Vegas..

Just checked expedia to see how much we paid for our return flights LA to Vegas. Price total for 2 of us is $347.

Since AA changed their suitcase policy (even though we may not be charged) we%26#39;re tempted to drive instead.

We know nothing about the prices for gas etc and want to know if it%26#39;ll cost us more or less than the $347 to hire the car,pay gas etc.

If it works out relatively the same or cheaper we will take the drive. We dont mind about time or boring scenery just want to do the cheapest option. Road trip would be kind of fun, as long as theres a fast food place on the way!

Also is it a fairly easy drive? My bf is worrying about getting lost etc!

Thanks for any help :]

Help to decide, Fly or Drive LA to Vegas..

I%26#39;m sure your tickets are non-refundable, so you%26#39;d be stuck with the $347 as a future credit as well as paying the change fee on a future trip (which you probably would never use since you%26#39;re from England, right?). So basically you%26#39;d throw the $347 down the drain PLUS pay for a rental car. Doesn%26#39;t make any sense to me - keep things the way they are.

You will NOT be charged for the bags.

And it is a boring drive.

Just to check...you ARE renting a car in LA, right? Almost impossible to do anything without one.

But you should still fly to LV since you already have your tickets.

The drive is a straight shot. 210 east for about 45 minutes, then 15 fwy for about 3 1/2 hours. No twist and turns, no getting gost. If you get an economical car (like a sentra or corolla), you should be able to get there on one fill up, and back on another fill up. You%26#39;re looking at about $60 each way on gas alone. The drive can be enjoyable, but it can also get boring. If you enjoy looking at desert rocks and mountains, then it may be ok for you. There%26#39;s not much on the road, just a whole bunch of desert.

If it%26#39;s only two of you, flying may be an option. The flight is about 45 minutes, but you must arrive at least an hour or two before your flight to check in. You%26#39;ll be there faster and more rested. Once arriving to Vegas, you can pretty much taxi it everywhere. I try to avoid Driving in Vegas as much as possible. Traffic is terrible and I there are free drinks everywhere, I don;t like to worry about drinking and driving.

Check americawest and southwest airlines, they usually have better rates on flights.

is your flight roundtrip?

I doubt you can get a refund on your tickets so like a previous poster said you would be stuck with having paid that fair and getting a credit that is good for a year from the time of purchase

thanks for all the replies.

just read the small print and we would get charged $100 dollars per ticket to cancel. plus expedias fees. so you are right i think we will stick to the flight.

I%26#39;ve printed out the exceptions rules.. just to make me feel better incase they try make us pay (yeah i know im paranoid!)

Thanks for all the help anyway :]

Don%26#39;t feel paranoid! I have the baggage info for my upcoming flights printed out...you never know when you%26#39;ll get a check-in person who just can%26#39;t be bothered checking the rules, and I don%26#39;t want to pay until I have to, either.
