We are travelling from the UK so have a very early start 2am and will arrive in Las Vegas at approxiamately 9.30pm UK time. It will be early afternoon when we get there. What would you recommend doing? We are staying at the MGM Grand.
Thanks
What do you do on the first night?Put your whole gambling budget on black (or red) and then either celebrate and party all day and night, or go to bed, cry and stay in the room for your entire holiday!!! :)
No, seriously.......I would head out and explore some South Strip properties (the MGM will keep you going for a while). Key is to stay awake, which isn%26#39;t hard to do in Vegas, and try and adjust your body straight away. The longer you can stay awake the better and will determine just how early you will be awake in the morning.
I stayed up until 10pm (woo) in Atlanta this year which is my best ever effort on a transatlantic flight. My worst was in San Francisco where I bailed at about 8pm, and I paid for it the next morning by being wide awake at 4am!!! In Vegas 4am would be fine, but San Francisco was asleep.
We too head to the MGM. Staying 17-21st August at present but might be adding a day onto that, or at the Signature.
What do you do on the first night?I have never traveled internationally, but from what I%26#39;ve read on here, the jet lag can be a killer. I would not plan anything for the first night, but play it by ear. I most definitely would not plan any high end restaurant or show. So many people succumb to the jet lag and cannot make it through the evening without giving into sleep. Even our comparatively short flight (less than 4 hours) can take its toll. We are only 2 hours ahead of LV time and we feel the difference.
I hope you have a safe flight and enjoy your trip.

We usually eat then go straight to bed to sleep off the flight. Then we%26#39;re up at about 3am Vegas time when it%26#39;s super quiet in the casinos, drinking bloody marys and playing VP. Where else can you do that?!!!!
I agree.
Last September we flew into LAX (from Heathrow) and then onto LV and we arrived in Vegas about 6pm. All we did was just unpack our bags and headed down to the Studio Cafe for some food.
We did our best to stay awake and it was tempting to just pop a $10 bill into a slot but we had 5 further days for that. After the meal we had a look around the MGM and went back up, watched TV for a while before nodding off.
It really is tough, but the bonus, is that the next day you are wide awake and raring to go. I think at 7am we were walking across to the NYNY having woken up, watched some TV and had showers.
Kirameki,
Of course that%26#39;s the alternative option. Sleep once you arrive and wake up whenever and go with the flow from there. I have often found that my body doesn%26#39;t adjust so quickly by doing this though, plus of course there is the worry of going to bed at 4pm in Vegas and not waking up until 8am (16 hour sleep) the next morning (not unheard of to be honest).
We tend to explore the hotel %26amp; then go to the strip and stock up on drink etc for the room. We check out the hotels directly next to the one we are staying and gamble a litle at our own hotel. We then usually of for room service (unpack while we are waiting) or a buffet (no wait for orders to be cooked if you are tiered)and then head for bed. We try and stay up as long as we can, but it can be difficult when you are tired from travelling as well as jet lag.
The first full day we always get up early and take a long walk down the strip before stopping off somewhere for breakfast. It%26#39;s lovely to walk down the strip when it%26#39;s relativley cool and quiet!
Have a good one!
Thats the same sort of time we get there. We usaly unpack and get a shower and head out for an early meal. Followed by a few drink and a bit of slot play try not to go to bed befor 11pm you will be like the walking dead but honest it will be over when you wake up set up in Vegas time ready to hit the pool!!! x
I would hang out at the MGM and check out the casino, restaurants...maybe gamble a little and have two or three stiff drinks. Then I%26#39;d go to the room and try to get a good night%26#39;s sleep so you%26#39;ll be rested somewhat to begin your stay.
You%26#39;re going to need as much rest as you can get because in LV, it seems you never get any rest. Try to start off your trip with a good night%26#39;s sleep. I know...tough to do..but after your long flight you%26#39;ll be glad you did.
It seems we always average 3-4 hours sleep per night. The last night we were in LV, we went to bed at 6:00 p.m. because we were drop-dead tired.
Good tips, thanks guys. I think we will take your advice and try to stay up. We are only there for 4 nights so I don%26#39;t want to spend it jet lagged. I guess we%26#39;ll have a nice meal and explore the casinos around us. Maybe play a few slots.
I dont think jet lag is too much of a problem when you arrive....... however, on your return home you will be hit by it bigtime if you are anything like me !
On arrival I would do as others have suggested, stay awake as long as posible and only go to bed in Vegas time.
Unfortunately for you, bedtime in Vegas is ........ erm........ never !
So stay up for the entire stay. I mean four days is all you got !! You have no chance of seeing it all ! None !!
