A couple years ago we took the tour bus to Red Rock Canyon (they through in some other stuff on the tour also). wondering if Valley of Fire tour would be worth it or if it is just more of the same
Valley of Fire - worth the time?
I thought Red Rock was a snore - VOF is fabulous! But do it on your own, you don%26#39;t need a tour. It is just beautiful.
Valley of Fire - worth the time?
No, it is not the same at all. VOF is much bigger and better and has different scenery. It has spectacular scenery that is absolutely stunning. The formations will make you think you are on another planet. Is it worth it? 1,000 times- yes!
But- if at all possible- don%26#39;t waste your time or money on a tour. Rent a car for the day and drive there yourself. You will then be on your own schedule -not someone else%26#39;s schedule. You will see what you want to see for as long as you want to see it. You can also take the time to hike on some of its trails and even have a picnic there. It is probably cheaper to rent a car than to take a tour that wastes your time picking up and dropping other passengers off. Many people combine it with Hoover Dam/Lake Mead

Both above posts are DEAD ON.
VOF is AWESOME and rent a car for the day.
At most a decent sized car will set you back $30.
All ';tours'; of RRC and VOF are ripoffs.
The Valley of Fire is spectacular but it is oppressively hot this time of year. The Fire isn%26#39;t just the color of the rocks.
Great get away. Just take food and drink. There are no restaurants anywhere near the place. If you go back to Vegas via Lake Mead there is a good restaurant at the dock about 20 miles south of VOF.
VOF is cool, just look for some photos online. Go around sunset though, best view ever, makes the iron in the mts glow.
Agreed, VOF is pretty cool, we rented our own car and drove up there, It was about 6 hours and we were farily express tourists, mostly driving, not much hiking or stopping. So it is a whole day pretty much, if you are only in Vegas for 3 days or so I would skip it, but if you are there for a week, then go for it.
These ';worth the time'; questions always make me chuckle. One man%26#39;s trash is another man%26#39;s treasure. Do YOU want to see Valley of Fire? Then it%26#39;ll be worth the time. It begins with the seed of curiosity, which you have. Like the above posters, I%26#39;ll never forget VOF. I found it beautiful, surprising, challenging, spectacular, historical, spare, abundant, inspiring, and, oh, the list goes on. Is it worth the time? You%26#39;ll never know unless you go.
Def worth it, we did it in December when there was snow on the high up peaks and very few people so we had the whole park to ourselves. It was in the high 50%26#39;s during the day so quite nice for some short hiking and scenic overlooking. I%26#39;d highly recommend it, we rented a car for the day and I think it was $30 total, and probably kick in $20 for gas. Still much cheaper than any tour and as others have said, you can operate on your own schedule.
It%26#39;s definitely worth it. Red Rock was a yawn compared to VoF. Sadly we did VoF first and were underwhelmed by Red Rock.
I agree with those who say you should rent a car. Then you can do it at your own pace.
A funny story about the remoteness of VoF...hubby and I were on a roadtrip and planned to get to Vegas on Saturday night. We ended up on a crazy driving streak and got to town Friday night instead. Since we had planned to do VoF in the morning, we figured we%26#39;d stay somewhere near Valley of Fire that night. Well, 20 minutes outside of Vegas and there was NOTHING. We ended up turning around and getting a good rate at the Strat. The lesson is, those above who told you to shop for provisions before leaving town were not joking!
