I heard that a Delta flight from NY to Vegas was canceled after the passengers sat on the tarmac for 7 hours waiting to take off. I can not find the article. Does anyone know anything about this?
Delta AirlinesPassengers of a Las Vegas-bound Delta Airlines flight will get refunds after their plane was delayed on a New York airport tarmac for more than seven hours -- before the flight was canceled.
Delta spokesman Kent Landers tells the Daily News that thunderstorms delayed flights on all airlines. He says passengers are usually returned to the gate, but was unable to explain why passengers aboard the flight were made to wait on the plane.
The Delta flight scheduled to depart from John F. Kennedy International Airport at 10:30 a.m. Sunday was canceled sometime after 5:30 p.m.
Landers says the airline will refund passengers and make new arrangements for them to continue their travels
Delta AirlinesThey should comp the passengers minimum 1k each ... thats insane. I have flown on Delta and American this summer and both times had problems that I fortunately able to resolve with persistance but potentially could have cost me a day of my vacation and a lot of grief.
Who should be doing the comping here? The airport? The airline? The FAA? Maybe God for causing the weather?
I spent 7 hours once on a flight from Baltimore to Boston. I survived. I%26#39;ve also been on about 300 other flights that arrived more or less on time. Sometimes stuff just happens, I don%26#39;t look to make money off it when it does.
Wow - bummer!
I think they have to investigate as to why they were out in the tarmac for so long. There were other flights delayed as well. They weren%26#39;t out on the tarmac. If they were still inside the terminal an not on the plane, they could%26#39;ve at least walked around. Figured every airline would%26#39;ve learned from the mistake that JetBlue made last year (or early this year).
04.... Here%26#39;s the article you were looking for.

7 hrs on the tarmac? How sad for those people.
Passengers held on the tarmac for 7 hours deserve more than a ticket refund and new travel arrangements. They deserve to know what individual made the decisions that resulted in this horrible situation which amounts to imprisonment. They deserve to know what the penalties are for those responsible for ensuring this doesn%26#39;t happen who obviously failed to do their jobs. They deserve to know what actions the pilot was taking to mitigate this. They deserve monetary compensation for a lost day at whatever rate of pay the highest paid airline employee makes.
Of course they will get none of the above since airlines don%26#39;t suffer many consequences for these type of failures. Any attempts to enact a meaningful passenger bill of rights continue to fail in Congress.
I was scheduled on a Delta flight from JFK to LAS on Sunday. Not only was the flight cancelled, but the gate attendant didn%26#39;t even wait around to help. He just posted a Flight Cancelled notice, didn%26#39;t make an announcement and just left. One of my fellow passengers noticed this as asked him where he was going. He said that he couldn%26#39;t re-book that many people and left. After I noticed the cancellation I went to ticketing in the front of the airport and was told that I was re-scheduled for the following day. I explained that that would do me no good since I had a slot tournament and would miss the first two (out of three) sessions and that I wanted to cancel. I was told that I had to go back through security and use a phone to cancel at which time I could get my luggage. After holding on the phone for over 30 minutes an announcement was made that if you were re-booked you could get to Carousel D and get your luggage. I figured I%26#39;d get my luggage then go home and call to cancel. Naturally, there was no luggage. After waiting in another line I was told that all luggage was redirected to the rescheduled flights and would not be unloaded. My bag made it to Las Vegas although I didn%26#39;t.
This was handled poorly from beginning to end. I witnessed several Delta employees, including Jack - a supervisor at Baggage Claim, yelling at upset passengers. No I%26#39;m sorry, I%26#39;ll do what I can to help, just tough luck.
Luckily, I was able to get another slot tournament from the fine folks at the Flamingo in Sept. and am flying Contimental.
Fly Delta at your own risk.
I could write a book about my bad experiences with Delta.
I know some people say ';stuff happens';, but I think the big problem here is being stuck ON THE PLANE for seven hours. You can%26#39;t tell me there is any good reason for not bringing the passengers back to the terminal where they can get to the restaurants, stores and restrooms. I%26#39;ve been delayed at airports and on planes and time goes by a LOT slower on the plane.
